"Today international solidarity is needed, specially to support the expansion of social protection. Within countries that have limited domestic resources, and to build social protection floors where there are currently none. This is why today we are speaking of a global fund (for social protection)", says Alison Tate, director of Economic and Social Policy of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
