Intravenous route of drug administration: (In animals its surrogate is Intraperitoneal due to difficulty of intravenous injection)
Advantages: (reverse of oral route)
1- Suitable in emergency due to its rapid onset
2- Suitable in unconscious, uncooperative, severely ill
and vomiting
3- Complete bio-availability
4- Suitable for irritant drugs
Disadvantages: (reverse of oral route)
1- Not suitable for self-administration
2- Expensive
3- Not safe (risk of infection, overdose not overcome, Injection pain
