According to historical records, there was a King in Uganda named Mwanga II who was openly gay. Mwanga II was the Kabaka (King) of the Buganda Kingdom from 1884 to 1897. He is known for his resistance against British colonial rule and for his persecution of Christians, including a group of young men who were martyred for refusing his sexual advances.
Mwanga II was known to have had sexual relationships with young men, particularly his male pages, and was considered a homosexual by European missionaries and colonial administrators. However, it's worth noting that the concept of homosexuality and same-sex relationships was viewed differently in traditional African societies compared to modern Western perspectives.
Today, homosexuality is still illegal in Uganda, and the country has been criticized for its treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals.
