Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated six-lane widening project of Prayagraj-Varanasi highway and little later, offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

PM Modi undertook a tour of Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor Project and reviewed its progress.

The project, whose foundation was laid by the Prime Minister in 2019, is likely to be completed by August 2021.

The Kashi Vishwanath Dham project, considered a dream project of PM Modi was launched by himself in March 2019. The project aims at restoring the ancient glory of Kashi.

The project is aimed at the expansion and beautification of Kashi Vishwanath temple which will ensure visibility of the temple directly from the ghat. The construction of the corridor is spread in an area of 5 lakh square feet with a number of facilities for the devotees.
Once the project is completed, nearby ghats in the city will be connected to the main temple. As part of the project, traffic movement around the main temple would be decongested.

Construction work had been undergoing on war footing since last year, for the Kashi Vishwanath corridor project. The project is likely to be completed by August 2021.
