UK Moving Fast on Crypto Regulations Says Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong

Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange with 110 million users, is considering relocating to the UK due to the lack of regulatory clarity in the US, according to its CEO Brian Armstrong. Armstrong criticised the US for dragging its feet on crypto regulation and suggested that the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, which oversees both commodities and securities, has an advantage over the US where two separate regulators have released contradictory statements. Armstrong added that "anything is on the table" including relocating the company.

Armstrong's comments come as the Bank of England explores the introduction of a digital pound and stablecoins, cryptocurrencies that are backed by a central bank currency, amid a decline in cash use. Sir Jon Cunliffe, deputy governor of the Bank of England, warned that cash would become "less useable" as shops increasingly reject banknotes.
