We sing Ah Poor Bird together, a traditional English round.

Rounds are a specific type of canon where each instance of the melody repeats verbatim, thus continuing in circular fashion. It presents an endlessly fascinating compositional puzzle, the creation of melody which harmonizes with itself. Rounds are also a particularly useful tool as multipart listening exercises, especially while also maintaining one's own melodic course. This is the essence of harmonizing, after all.
This round, Ah Poor Bird, has a few different variations, and you may be familiar with one of its alternates. There's a common one where the melody in "high above the sorrows" is sung on a C# rather than C natural, invoking harmonic minor, whereas the version we sing here is natural minor. And there are a few additional verses, all of which vary from version to version. Fun to explore, if you're so inclined.
