The Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® system is used in conjunction with both the Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist and the Electronic Stability Programme ESP®, both of which are car safety features that detect dangerous situations via advanced sensors.
As soon as certain hazardous conditions are detected, PRE-SAFE® activates a number of safety features. These include electrical reversible belt tensioners, the PRE-SAFE® seat positioning function, and the automatic closing of windows and the sunroof. The PRE-SAFE® seatbelt element ensures that both the driver and the front passenger are fixed in their seats while the positioning function places the passenger in a more favourable position for a potential collision. In the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, those features are even available as an option for the outboard rear seats.
The Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® system utilizes sensing technology of active safety systems in order to identify situations that could end in a crash. However, if the crash can be avoided, the preventive measures will be deactivated, leaving you ready to continue your ride.
