I made this video to show how easy it is to Gouge the SOFT Circular Magnetic Encoder Strip.
Be careful!
I accidentally Gouged the strip while trying to remove the ABS wheel speed sensor, by breaking it off and pushing it in the hole.
The sensor is around $200 from the Dealer!, so don’t break it.(ABS sensor Part Number# 1645401517)
I came to realize it was easier and cheaper to buy a used complete wheel hub assembly off EBAY, search the below to see how to just replace the Magnetic Encoder.

Search eBay for a: “06-12 Mercedes X164 Rear Right Side Wheel Spindle Knuckle Hub Bearing OEM”
I bought my hub from eBay seller Garageman01 located in West Sacramento, CA for $105.40 + $30 SH.
The part was fairly New and in very good condition.
NOTE: Some of the Hub Assemblies come with a UNCUT emergency cable and UNCUT ABS Wheel Speed Sensor! Sometimes the person removing the hub will cut both cables!Face/Palm... You have to view photos.
Also people searching for Mercedes Brake Rig Test(Procedure) is more than likely experiencing a Bad Reluctor Ring or Bad Magnetic Encoder, they are not the same.
If you are left Stranded down the road (like I was) because the car is saying...
BRAKE
EBV, ABS, ESP inoperative Diagnosis/Rig Test.
It is possible to TURN OFF the ESP completely, so you can drive home to fix the issue.
1. Turn key to first accessory setting.
2. Press the trip odometer reset button three times rapidy before it goes off. ( if done right a screen will appear showing voltometers)
3. Then press "up" arrow on the left side of the steering wheel twice to take you to the "esp dynamometer test" screen.
4. Using the the + (plus) button on the right side of the steering wheel select "on".
5. Start the Car.
6. A Warning will appear showing esp, abs, and ebv aids are now turned OFF(now you're on your own).
7. !!! Be careful because your car will now be easier to lose control driving through wet, gravel, sand and snowy conditions!!!
* When the issue is FIXED To turn the ESP back ON scroll back to the dyno test screen and select
"w/t. 15 off" with the - (minus) button, It(w/t.15)must be highlighted OFF to turn the ABS/ESP back on.
The hub in the video goes to a 2011 Mercedes GL350 X164 Right Rear Wheel Hub.
