조윤선 구속영장 기각; 법원 도망•증거인멸 우려 없다
Turning to another high-profile person wrapped up tightly in the former government's corruption scandal...
Cho Yoon-sun, a former culture minister and presidential aide to ousted former president Park Geun-hye, has avoided being arrested again,... just five months after she was released from custody with a suspended prison sentence for lying to the National Assembly.
The Seoul Central District Court turned down the prosecution's request for a warrant to arrest Cho on charges of bribery and abuse of power,.. saying it's difficult to see that she would attempt to flee or destroy evidence.
Prosecutors filed for the arrest warrant last Friday on charges that she had taken more than 45-thousand U.S. dollars in bribes from the National Intelligence Service, while serving as a senior presidential secretary for political affairs.
They also say Cho pressured the country's largest business conglomerates to donate millions of dollars to conservative civic groups that were pro-Park.
