Today on our 2019 Kia Sorrento, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame custom fit class III trailer hitch receiver, offering the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. Now, here's what your hitch is going to look like installed. As you can see, we've got our tube that's going to come across our receiver tube opening. It's a little bit shorter on this side. That allows it to go up and over that exhaust. We don't really have to worry about any modifications or anything like that to the vehicle. We've got our two inch by two inch receiver tube opening here.
It's a class III hitch, makes it extremely versatile. This works for just about any type of hitch type accessory. See we've got a reinforcement collar around the end of it there, kind of a rounded appearance to it. Gives it a clean look. Then we're going to have plate style safety chain connection points here.
Nice, large opening, so regardless of the size chain you want to connect, you won't have any issues there. Now, there is a wiring bracket here that will allow you to attach a seven pole or a four pole to it if you have the need for that, if you're going to be hauling a trailer. Gives you a nice option of the place to attach it outside of your vehicle rather than inside. Now, to hold our items in place in our hitch, we're going to use the larger pinhole you see a little bit closer to the front of the vehicle. That's five eights of an inch in diameter. You want to choose a class III accessory.
The second hole, the smaller hole, that's for use only with the J-Pin stabilization system. That's one of many choices of anti-rattle device that we have. Basically would be a pin that goes through. There's a little tab on it and it applies pressure to whatever you've got mounted in there to keep it from moving around. The tongue weight rating for the hitch, which is the maximum downward force we can put here at the receiver tube opening, is 500 pounds. The gross trailer weight rating is 5,000 pounds.
That's going to be the total weight of your trailer and anything that you load up on it. Definitely check the owner's manual on the Sorrento, though, to see what its tow rating is, and don't exceed that. Now, a couple measurements you'll find helpful for selecting ball mounts, bike racks, or hitch cargo carriers. We'll do from the ground to the inside top edge of our receiver tube opening. We've got about 12 and three quarters of an inch. Then from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper, it's about five inches. Now, with that measurement being under 13 inches, we recommend the use of items with a raise in the shank, just to help give you better ground clearance. To begin the install side, you need to get your spare tire lowered down. We're just going to remove ours completely. We'll put it back up after we have our hitch in place. We're going to use either our tools in the trunk here, or we can use a 21 millimeter socket. It's a little quicker if we use a socket. We also want a flat blade screwdriver. We'll open up this back hatch area, and right down here, you want to remove this cap. That will give us access to the nut. We need to loosen that up and allow our spare tire to be lowered down. The next step we need to take care of is getting our cover lowered. There's a little panel here. We've got three push pin fasteners, one, two, and three. We want to remove those. We'll use a flat blade screwdriver. Then we'll use a 14 millimeter socket with an extension, and see this pocket here and the one here, got two nuts up there we want to loosen up. We'll pull that down and set it aside for now.The next step we need to do is get our exhaust lowered down. There's going to be three hangers. We've got one located right here at the back. There's going to be one catty-corner from that, kind of tucked up in here, just beside your rear passenger side wheel. And then if we come back towards the center of the vehicle, follow our exhaust pipe forward, we'll find another one right here. Now, I like to use a little bit of spray lubricant on these just to make everything come apart a little bit easier, and then you can use a big screwdriver or a pry bar. Just kind of come in from the back, apply pressure, and you can get them to pop off there. Now on each side, you're going to have a rubber plug in the frame rail. We want to pull that out. We're not going to reuse them, so we can return them to our customer and just hang onto them. We're going to need to have an extra set of hands help us get our hitch lifted up into position. We're going to grab our small M10 bolts. We're going to pu
