Lung cancer specialist Mark Socinski, of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, discusses how screening for lung cancer has evolved in the past few years, and how it can benefit individuals at high risk of lung cancer.
"We had a very nice study, the National Lung Cancer Screening Study, that showed a 20 percent reduction in deaths from lung cancer," he says. The study included individual aged 55 to 70 and smoked at least 30-pack years.
He encourages individuals to talk to their doctor about lung cancer screening and if they should be tested.
