Part of Dell’s 9th Generation, this server comes equipped with 8 DIMM slots utilizing DDR2 memory. This is the 1U younger brother to the 2950 which supports the same RAM and CPUs. You can only use one type of memory for the Dell PowerEdge 1950 server. The only option is Fully buffered, FBIMMs. ECC Registered (RDIMM) memory modules simply will NOT work with the Dell PowerEdge 1950 server. Do not purchase DIMMs for 2970 and think you can install in 1950. They just are not compatible and will not work. These are two separate styles of memory altogether.
The max memory configuration for your Dell 1950 server depends on the generation of 1950 you have. You can locate your generation on the rackmount ear. There will be roman numerals. I = Gen 1.
