AT&T has confirmed a major data breach affecting over 73 million current and former customers. The breach, first reported in 2021, surfaced on the dark web and includes sensitive customer information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, dates of birth, and AT&T account numbers and passcodes. AT&T became aware of the vulnerability after it was notified by TechCrunch, revealing that customer passcodes were easily decipherable. The company has reset passcodes for affected current customers and is notifying them individually. AT&T is working with cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach and claims there's no evidence of unauthorized access to their systems. The compromised data appears to be from 2019 or earlier and doesn't include financial information or call history.
