Fact or Fiction: Do carrots help you see better? Ophthalmologist, Dr. Rupa Wong, examines the evidence and the origin for this statement.
Are carrots good for your eyes? And, do carrots give you better night vision?
I examined the evidence and this myth is not really rooted in evidence.
In fact, this myth started because the Allied forces WWII didn't want the Germans to learn about their radar technology and instead said that their English pilots just had really good night vision from eating carrots!
Carrots actually have beta carotene and then undergoes a conversion process to Vitamin A.
Vitamin A deficiency can lead to certain eye conditions and even blindness - like xerophthalmia and corneal ulcers. But no studies have show the opposite.
