This is the opening song of The Chills in Auckland for their 'Scatterbrain' Album Release Tour. Just wait like us the audience for this song to begin. Unusually I have left in this long beginning, just to sense the anticipation of this very well-received Martin and The Chills on fire and inform performance. Also playing was The Bats, as it is Flying Nun's 40th anniversary of this New Zealand's iconic indie label, which began in 1981.
The Chills and The Bats have only performed together once before, at the Dunedin Town Hall on the 8th of July 1990 on the Submarine Bell tour, alongside The 3Ds.
"The Chills are feeling honoured to be performing alongside The Bats for only the second time in our careers" - Martin Phillipps, The Chills.
"1990?! About bloody time we celebrated with our seniors (the 40-year-old Chills) and share the stage with them again! (We're only 38!)" - Paul Kean, The Bats.
The lyrics from 'Night of the Chill Blue' in the 1987 album 'Brave Words' are
"Sitting watching clouds go by
Falling 'cross a very wide sky
It's the night of chill blue and I'd
Like to say how I love you but it's
All been said in other songs
And if I try to say it new
Then I'll say it wrong
So I think of you, the only one
I wish that it was just us two
But you and me and us, that's three
Twinkling stars over foreign lands
Silent camel train on desert sands
It's the night of chill blue
And I hope to god you feel this too
It's the night of chill blue
And I hope to god you feel this too
It's the night of chill blue
And I hope to god you feel this too"
