Our natural tendency as humans is to take the path of least resistance, and we do this because we had to preserve energy to fight off lions and bears. Now, we don't exactly have to worry about things related to our survival as much, but our natural inclination is still the path of least resistance. Therefore, we associate worthwhile things to always require hardowrk, which leads us to do nothing at all to achieve those things.
