You want to install the tow hitch on your GMC Sierra 1500 or Heavy Duty truck. But you're worried that the Multi-Pro Tailgate might hit the hitch.

Here's how to put those worries to rest.

1. PRESS AND HOLD the TOP BUTTON on your Multi-Pro Tailgate for 7 SECONDS

2. Look for your taillights to blink 3 times.

3. Release the button after the blinking stops.

That's it.

Now, you're free to drop your tailgate without having to worry about hitting the top of your town hitch and damaging your truck.

To unlock, simply PRESS AND HOLD the top button again for another 7 seconds.

This is a new update from GMC. In the previous generation of the GMC Sierra, you only needed to hit the top button for three seconds. While quicker to lock and unlock, customers would sometimes unknowingly unlock their tailgates.

This new update ensures that won't happen again.
