"Del destin non dee lagnarsi",
from the opera Bajazet, RV 703
Libretto: Agostino Piovene
Music: Antonio Vivaldi
First performance: Verona, during the Carnival season of 1735
Bajazet is a pasticcio by Antonio Vivaldi. The story is about the fate of Bajazet (known as Beyazid I) after being captured by Tamerlane (Tamerlano/Timur-e-Lang). Vivaldi himself composed the arias for the good characters and mostly used existing arias from other composers for the villains in this opera. Some of the arias are reused from previous Vivaldi operas; this particular aria was taken from his L'Olimpiade (Venice, Carnival 1734).
For this video, I used a computerized score of the aria "Del destin non vi lagnate" from L'Olimpiade; I simply replaced the text with the Bajazet version.
The score can be found here:

I'd like to thank Lorena (margotlorena) for providing the text and the translation of this aria; also to my dear Marc (MehdiCaps) for helping me with the word setting of this aria on the score.
NB: In this recording, 13 bars of the A section were not performed in the da capo.
Bajazet: Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, bass-baritone
Europa Galante,
conducted by Fabio Biondi
Recorded in April 2004

Del destin non dee lagnarsi
chi ha nel petto un'alma forte,
e l'aspetto della morte
non paventa un cuor di re.
Il morir solo m'avanza,
e il mio caro amato pegno
fido prence a te consegno,
tu poi l'alma ancor per me.

Translation:
Of their fate should none complain
whose spirit is strong within him,
and the prospect of death
instils no fear in the heart of a king.
Only death awaits me,
and my dearly beloved daughter
I entrust, worthy prince, to you:
love her for my sake when I am gone.
