We're back once again with a Union Mine exploration video! Part 7 and trip number 3. We have spent a total of 41 hours underground in this massive mine and there is so much left to explore. In Part 7, we descended all the way down to the B-200 Level where we left off last time. We then rigged our rope and dropped into the large cave we found at the end of Part 6. This cave lead us further down into the mine and eventually to the B-300 Level. Remember that the B-300 and the A-600 are at equivalent elevations, so we were 600 feet below the surface!
We are certain that we are the only explorers to reach the B-300 Level. The extreme technical and route finding challenges have kept people out of most of this mine. In this section of the mine, we found artifacts from the 1890's, large caves, gnarly collapses, and even some miner's candles! Could you imagine navigating through an underground mine with only a small candle for light? Well back in the 1800's, before carbide, that's how the miners did it...
In Part 8, we find another connection to the B-300 Level which takes us to the other side of the collapse that impeded our progress in this video. In Part 8, we also finally find one of the shafts that used to connect the mine's levels together. Stay tuned!
