At a news conference at Queen’s Park, Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, announces that several more regions of the province will enter stage three of the plan for easing public-health measures that are in place due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. The premier is joined by Health Minister Christine Elliott and Finance Minister Rod Phillips. The regions of Durham, York, Halton, Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand-Norfolk, and Lambton will move to stage three on July 24, 2020, joining most other parts of the province, which have been in stage three since July 17. The city of Toronto and the regions of Peel and Windsor-Essex, however, will remain in stage two for the time being. Stage three increases the maximum permitted size of indoor and outdoor gatherings and lifts most restrictions on the operation of businesses and the use of public spaces.
