I had a good night's sleep on flat ground in the Canyon overlooking the north-west coast of Tenerife - it was, however, a bit chilly with the breeze coming down the mountain straight into where I was camped, so I packed up quickly and headed down the Canyon. The 'path' was sketchy to say the least, and required negotiating cacti and scrambling on all fours down rocks until finally I reached the bottom.
After a walk along the flat road I was at Punta del Teno. I went for a quick swim at the small beach and had breakfast before heading off into the hills. 5km and over 1,000 metres of elevation later I was in Teno Alto, passing farms, cheesemakers and other agricultural areas, before making it into the village and getting some supplies - including some Passion Fruit Liqueur, which I had that night. It was my birthday after all! The liqueur, locally made, gets a 7.5 from me, very sweet but very tasty, it wasn't cheap however.
Next I was heading up again and had amazing views - on one side the Atlantic and the other side, Teide. The clouds were starting to roll in by now and I was getting wet from the rain that had started. I headed across a beautiful ridge and finally into Masca in time to catch a bus to Santiago del Teide and onto my hotel in Los Gigantes.
It was a fantastic six days of exploring and I would recommend Tenerife to any adventurer. It was my third time on the island and certainly won't be my last!
