About The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)
CCCC Tianhe Mechanical Equipment Manufacturing, a company based in the Changshu City of Jiangsu Province, has recently rolled out the tunnel boring machine (TBM) Zhenxing using homegrown technologies and core domestic components, which marks a milestone for the country in breaking foreign technical barriers and achieving innovation.
With a diameter of 15.03 meters, Zhenxing, which means revitalization, measures 135 meters long and 4,000 tons heavy, making breakthroughs in many core technologies and enhancing the localization level in comparison with other TMBs, according to the company, a subsidiary of a State-owned construction firm China Communications Construction Co (CCCC).
The machine will be used for building a tunnel under the Yangtze River near the Heyan Road in Nanjing, which sets a record for the highest water pressure in China. According to a panel composed of five academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 16 experts, construction of the large-diameter tunnel will overcome the most complicated and difficult challenges ever met in similar projects across the Yangtze River, which certainly place a severe test for the TMB manufacturing and operation. Zhenxing will be used in construction along with a TBM from German manufacturer Herrenknecht AG.
