The Ukrainian ZSU-23-4 Shilka - here in ground attack mode - began life in the 50's as a lightly armored Soviet self-propelled, radar-guided anti-aircraft weapon system (SPAAG).
Around 1999, Ukraine's Malyshev Tank Factory in Kharkov modernized the Shilka with a modified turret from the ZSU-23-4, and armed with two additional paired man-portable air-defense systems "Strela-10" installed on the hull of the T-80UD main battle tank. Ammunition capacity for its 23 mm autocannons was also doubled.
The ZSU-23-4M-A (2017) modernization package developed by the Arsenal Factory in Kyiv featured a new Rokach-AS radar, laser rangefinder, and four automatic Igla missiles.
