The King and Queen were heckled by protesters as they arrived at the 11th century Colchester Castle on a day of engagements to mark the bestowing of city status on the Essex town.
The demonstrators, who carried a placard saying “Not my King”, shouted: “Why are you wasting our money?” and “Why are you defending Andrew?” When the couple ignored them, they shouted: “Come and talk to your critics, sir!”
