Joseph Stalin, paranoid dictator and the formidable architect of the Soviet Union's triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II, met a brutal, yet mysterious end on the fifth of March, 1953. Enveloped in a cloak of enigma and irony, his death unfolded amidst the shadows of his power-hungry successors, eager to claim the vast empire he left behind.
