In this sound comparison video, the Drum.Dog team put 3 pairs of overhead mics to the test!
Overhead mics play a huge role in the overall sound of any kit recording, so making the right choice when you're deciding which mics are right for you can be a crucial decision. In this video we aim to give a fair comparison of the sound properties the 3 main types of overhead mics give:
- Large Diaphragm Condenser
- Small Diaphragm Condenser
- Ribbon Mics
In this video you'll hear each pair of mics in solo (just the overheads) and blended in with the close mics in order to give a true respresentation of how they sit in the mix. None of the overheads have any EQ/Compression or any other processing in this video.
A special thanks to our friend Alex Wadstein, who lent us his Coles & Earthworks mics for this video.
