러시아, 유럽으로 가는 가스관 '노드스트림1' 또 폐쇄
For a look at news from around the world, we now turn to our Matthew Ashley standing by at the Arirang newsroom. Good morning.
Good morning.
Let's start off with Russia, as the country has shut off gas suppplies to Europe yet again.
That's right,... The flow of gas through the 1-thousand-200 kilometer-long Nordstream 1 Pipeline was halted on Wednesday, with Moscow claiming that a compressor in the pipeline needs maintenance.
According to Russia's state-owned Gazprom, there will be no supply for the next three days.
The move comes amid increasing tensions between the EU and Russia due to the war in Ukraine and subsequent Western sanctions imposed on Moscow.
The shutdown also puts more pressure on European countries to ration gas supplies ahead of winter.
The pipeline is capable of transporting some 170 million cubic meters of gas per day,... but as of July 27th has only transported 20 percent of its capacity to Europe.
The reduced flow followed a similar maintenance shutdown which lasted for 10 days.
