In book 23 of "The Odyssey," Odysseus reveals his true identity to Penelope after enduring numerous trials and tribulations. Initially skeptical, Penelope tests Odysseus by ordering her servant to move their wedding bed outside of their chamber. Astonishingly, Odysseus reveals that their bed cannot be moved since it was constructed using a live olive tree as a pillar. Overcome with emotion, Penelope finally recognizes her long-lost husband and the couple is joyfully reunited. In the midst of their celebration, an angered mob of suitors' relatives arrives seeking revenge for their lost kin. However, the bloodshed is halted by the goddess Athena, who intervenes and brings peace to Ithaca.
