The American poet, author and activist Maya Angelou has died at the age of 86.
Angelou died Wednesday morning at her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, her son, Guy B. Johnson, said in a statement.
She was best-known for her 1969 memoir "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings".
President Barack Obama called her "a brilliant writer, a fierce friend and a truly phenomenal woman."
