Muslims celebrated Eid al-Adha, known in China as the Corban Festival, in various ways across northwest China on Monday.
The festival, which was originally a day of sacrifice, is celebrated every year on December 10 of the Islamic calendar.
Chinese Muslims enjoy a four-day holiday for the festival, and with another three-day break for the Mid-Autumn Festival national holiday from Thursday, they will have the whole week off work.
More than 12,000 people from 26 ethnic groups in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region danced and played games at a gathering held to celebrate the festival.
While in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Gansu Province, Muslims made traditional foods and ate together at large family gatherings.
China has more than 20 million Muslims, mainly living in the provinces and provincial-level regions of Xinjiang, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, and Henan.
