YES! We can graze corn stalks throughout winter here in Minnesota!
Join us as Jared Luhman, from Goodhue, MN explains how and why he's grazing corn stalks & cover crops throughout most of the winter. He's also saving $500/day by grazing versus feeding hay.
Jared along with his wife, Valerie, and dad Jon, operate Dry Creek Red Angus and aren't afraid to push their 220 cows. This past winter, they planned to feed hay for only 6-8 weeks, while the average cow calf farmer, feeds stored hay from November through April.
Come along, as Jared tells us the tremendous value of winter grazing and how he's saving $$$.
*We apologize for the wind noise about half way through the video. Unfortunately we had some audio issues with our equipment.
There are numerous benefits to grazing stockpile, stalks or bale grazing where the cows harvest feed for themselves while spreading their own manure & urine. Farmers and ranchers that allow themselves to think outside the box like this are saving money, having the cows work for them, and developing a fertility plan by how they graze and outwinter.
The Luhman family also owns the Grass Fed Cattle Company where they provide healthy, grass fed and pastured meat products to consumers across the Midwest.
