Valeria Cartagena, a junior biology major, is one of 203 Puerto Rican students accepted at UCF after being displaced by Hurricane Maria. She struggles being away from her family, but has been determined to find ways to make her life in Orlando more enjoyable. Tutoring programs such as SARC have helped her adjust to her classes at UCF, while attending her first practice for the UCF women’s soccer club has helped her find a sense of belonging.
