Hi! I'm Jordan and in this video, let's experience some of the traditional crafts that Fukuoka has to offer!

We will visit Koishiwara, a small village surrounded by forestry and mountains with a river running through it, all of which combine to make it the perfect location for its most famous export, Koishiwara Pottery.

We will experience the traditional methods of making pottery that skilled craftspeople in the region still employ today. After attempting to make some pottery ourselves and learning about the authentic patterns used, let's look at some professionally made pottery ware.

Next, in the city of crafts, we will experience Kurume Kasuri. This traditional textile involves dying material in indigo and is still popular today for clothes, bags, and other goods. I look forward to showing you what I made and hope you can come here to make your creations too!

Indigo Dyeing Experience
Kurume Kasuri Ikeda Kasuri Kobo

A workshop that has produced indigo-dyed, hand-woven Kurume Kasuri textiles for over 100 years and is currently operated by the fourth generation of the founder. The weavers here pass on the region's traditional indigo dyeing and hand weaving methods as they continue to meticulously produce stunning textiles.

While learning about the techniques and history of Kurume Kasuri textile, you will have about an hour and a half to create your indigo-dyed work of art with the patterns and colors of your choice.
