The Bosnian Serbs on Thursday (4/1) released 16 Bosnian civilians who had been detained while travelling through the western Sarajevo suburb of Ilidza at various times since December 22. The Serbs acted under heavy pressure from the United States and France. Elsewhere in Bosnia on Thursday, US Admiral Leighton Smith, the overall commander of NATO peacekeeping forces in Bosnia, visited French and Spanish colleagues at the newly opened Mostar airport. He also visited the historic Mostar bridge (Stari Most).
