We know that we are commanded to forgive as God has forgiven. We also know that God’s forgiveness is not unconditional; God forgives on the condition of repentance. Some say, therefore, that our forgiveness is not to be unconditional; that we are to forgive only where there is repentance.
What do we to say to this? We say that the Bible does envision situations where sin is confronted formally, and even sometimes publicly, and where a KIND OF FORGIVENESS cannot be granted apart from repentance. However, unconditional forgiveness is the emphasis of the Bible.
