Preschool Read Aloud Story with Ms. Gisa! Juneteenth by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson and Drew Nelson and illustrated by Mark Schroder is a story about why we celebrate Juneteeth. The story goes into the background of how Africans were brought to America as slaves and freedom was always the desire of the enslaved and how slaves in Texas found out they were free two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Declaration. The book also explains Juneteenth traditions. Recommended for ages 7-10
