If you think it is all schnitzel and dumplings you are very much mistaken. One of Europe’s great secrets is the fabulous food in Austria. Our recent visit to Austria’s culinary capital Graz and the tasty region of Vorarlberg was a mouth-watering experience and we enjoyed unique as well as traditional Austrian food.
Follow our journey here from the Long Table event in Graz - an annual dining experience where 750 people are served a gourmet meal in the open air in the city's main square, cooked by over 30 local chefs.
For a full flavour of the country and its food take a look at our comprehensive guide, covering everything from traditional Austrian food to vegetarian dishes, delicious desserts, excellent Austrian wine, and also the ubiquitous schnapps: [ Ссылка ]
We also write about our own visits to Austria, when we tried a cheesemaking class at the Metzler dairy in Bregenzerwald, in Vorarlberg, on the far west of the country, sharing Lake Constance as a natural border between Austria, Germany and Switzerland - it's a place of natural delights, clean air and great food.
We also learned to cook some great examples of modern Austrian cuisine in a class at Kitchen12 in Graz.
While Graz is Austria's cool second city with a booming restaurant scene where cool chefs offer up exemplary dishes, the countryside of Vorarlberg is where Austrian farm to table food comes to life in organic hotels, locally sourced ingredients and passionate producers.
You'll find the region's organic farmers delivering produce to local restaurants and hotels, and producers creating high-quality produce from the fruits of the land. Vorarlberg mountain cheese, for example, is favoured across Austria, while its producers are using natural ingredients to bring character to their products.
