Being able to select objects and isolate objects is very important. There are at least 6 ways to select objects.
1. You can use the Home tab “Select” tool (arrow). You can pick any object you want in the model and it will highlight a selected object.
2. You can right-click on an object and click at the top of the menu to select that object.
3. You can use a window “Selection Box” to select a group of objects. Click, drag and release the left mouse button to select all the objects in a window.
4. You can use the “Selection Box” command with the shift key to select all the objects crossing the window.
5. The select tool is also available on the navigation bar.
6. You can select multiple objects using the CTRL key.
Selection Tree
The selection tree is the directory for the federated model. It identifies the objects selected in the view. As you select objects in the model, they will be highlighted on the selection tree.
You can get quite a lot of information about an object from the selection tree, from the object naming, the file it’s contained in, its location or project level. This is very useful.
You can use the selection tree to select objects of the same type or the same name in a project and they will be highlighted in the view.
Quick Properties
The quick properties feature is a basic text display that tells you what the name and type of an object, if you hold your mouse over an object. You don't have to click on an object, you can just float over it to see the properties.
Appearance
You can modify the colour and transparency of an object or groups of objects by right clicking on a highlighted object. You can also right click on selected objects in the selection tree to change their appearance.
Use transparency settings sparingly as too many transparent objects will slow down the performance of Your PC.
Hiding Objects
You can hide one object or groups of objects. Use the selection tree to identify which objects are hidden (greyed out). This is a quick way to review individual systems or to isolate different types of objects to compare them or check interfaces.
The “Unhide All” command will reset the visibility of all the objects in a model.
