Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's ruling Socialist party won Spain's election but fell short of a majority, kicking off weeks of coalition talks as he rallies smaller parties to form a working government. Meanwhile the Vox party and its leader Santiago Abascal won 10 per cent of the vote and entered parliament with 24 seats, the first time since 1975 that a far-right party has done so. The result marks an improvement for Sanchez, who had been leading a minority government with just 85 seats after ousting former Prime Minister Marioano Rajoy with a no-confidence vote last year, but means he will still need to rely on the support of smaller parties to govern.
