From August 18th to 21st of 2006, the Yankees and Red Sox played 5 games at Fenway Park. Entering the series, New York had a 1.5 game lead over Boston in the AL East standings. After completion of the 5th game, New York had increased that lead to 6.5 games. If you watched this series when it happened, then you know that the Friday night game (game 2 of the day/night double-header) utterly exhausted Boston's pitching staff and led them to poor pitching on Saturday where they issued 13 walks (9 of them by Josh Beckett). The Yankees offense took over and the rest is history.
