In this lecture, Professor Timothy Scott Brown discusses the global revolt of 1968 on both sides of the Cold War divide, identifying basic principles that underpinned the revolt in its diverse national and regional locations. Exploring the transnational exchanges and communities of the imagination that make it possible to speak of a "global 1968," he places the events of fifty years ago in historical perspective with an eye toward their continuing relevance today.
IES Senior Fellow Timothy Scott Brown is Professor of History at Northeastern University. Formerly a Berlin Prize Fellow of the American Academy in Berlin (Fall 2016) and a 2016-17 ACLS Fellow, in 2018 he will be a Fellow of the Rachel Carson Center in Munich, Germany.
