Several hundred Poles over the weekend rallied in Warsaw in solidarity for refugees after Polish officials said the country would admit up to 2,000 migrants as part of the EU's plan to redistribute refugees to members of the bloc.
The Polish government has repeatedly stated that it is not ready to absorb large numbers of new asylum seekers and earlier rejected the mandatory migrants quota proposed by the European Commission. A spokesperson from the Polish Office for Foreigners said the limit of 2,000 had been set due to the high numbers of migrants arriving in EU countries.
