I have always wanted to be a criminal defense attorney, ever since I remember. And as I was growing up, my focus was always to eventually become a criminal defense attorney. So in college I went and I majored in criminal justice and political science. And then I went ahead and I actually served in the Israeli Air Force Intelligence Unit for three years. When I came back, I finished law school with a concentration, again, on criminal defense. While in law school – I went to the John Marshall Law School Chicago – I clerked for the State’s Attorney’s Office. And then my last year I clerked under the 711 license where I could actually litigate cases.
After law school I stayed with the State’s Attorney’s Office for an additional about a year-and-a-half or so, learning. And that’s the only reason I’ve ever went to the State’s Attorney’s Office, because I wanted to feel comfortable in court, to learn how to litigate, to learn how to do jury trials. And that is the best way to learn because at the State’s Attorney’s Office you get a lot of opportunities to do so.
And after about a year-and-a-half I joined another criminal defense attorney here in Chicago, and I worked for him for about four or four-and-a-half years. And that’s when I went on my own and started my law firm with my business partner, Ian Berliner.
