While I've visited many places in the Icelandic highlands, this was my first time to the Kerlingarfjöll Mountain Range & Hverdalir Geothermal Area.
My mind was absolutely blown by the beauty in this central part of the Icelandic Highlands. What's even more awesome is that it's not hard to get there.
Yes, you must have a 4WD car but you don't have any major river crossings. Also, the Kerlingafjöll and Hveradalir area is so easy to walk around.
I give you all the details on how to get there and some highlights of what to see along the way and at specific spots in this video.
