Meet Eugene, my well-loved 1990 Volvo 240 Wagon. Eugene is my second Volvo 240 and these cars are great! This is my daily driver, and I commute in it back and forth between Idaho City and Boise daily, along with all of the adventures I take this car for. If you want a reliable, safe, and practical car with personality, look no further.
Despite its age, this car is wonderful with cold weather. If you know anything about the Volvo 240 series, then you're well aware that the heater will burn your eyes out of your sockets. It's very toasty, believe me. And if your feet get cold easily (like mine do), you'll be happy to know that the foot vents work just as well. So do the defrosters. To conquer blizzards, the car has brand new quality Bosch windshield wipers that keep the windshield clean and clear. And did I mention that it comes with snow tires?
Yes, this Volvo also comes with nearly new studded snow tires already mounted on rims! They just need to be swapped over when winter hits. The tires currently on the car are also in excellent shape and have plenty more life left.
The seats are leather and are in excellent shape except for a split seam on the passenger side. The seat covers do a great job of protecting them while still being comfy. To emphasize, this car is very comfortable and even has adjustable lumbar support, something even a lot of newer cars don't have.
All power windows work, and work quite well. They're also a lot faster than you'd expect from a 27 year old car.
The car has NO RUST ... Not even a little! On that note, the body is straight without any major dents or dings despite the paint being rather rough.
Like I had said at the beginning, I drive this car plenty daily, and you'll be happy to hear that it does 80 just fine on the freeway, and even has cruise control! It also has power steering and an air bag. 25 MPG!!
This is a Volvo, so of course it is very safe, and won many safety awards back in the day, even setting safety standards for other cars to live up to.
These cars can, and will, run forever if taken care of. A Volvo 240 has made it to 1 million miles, with plenty more following behind. This specific one hasn't even hit 200k yet!
Plenty of storage, with clever cubbies in the back. Also note the roof rack. If you often lose your keys, no need to worry; this car comes with multiple!
Only issues to note:
- Let's out an oil drop from time to time.
- Broken interior trim piece and missing speaker.
- Faded paint.
- A/C needs work.
This car really has been a thrill to have, but I'd rather have an old Subaru or something similar to take the beating of winter, especially since this 240 is a rust-free example. So this means that I'd love to hear about your potential Subaru you'd like to trade. But, as they say, cash is king.
$4200, obo. Roof rack and snow tires included!
