It is surprising how much students have their own knowledge that can deepen your own understanding. Students may have done work with various social programs and they know the reality, not just the academic theory. It can be refreshing to teach undergraduates.

If you want to study economics, figure out what you're interested in. There are many ways to study economics. You could look at the nitty gritty data, or you could be a wide sweeping thinker. You can also mix economics with courses throughout other subjects. History can help you to realize that many of our current problems have happened before. But it could be something else, like science. The cross pollination can make you a more interesting economist.
Economics isn't all fun. You will have to learn about curves, but there is profound insight into the world that we live in. Students think that it is going to be about business or stuff that they hear on CNBC. But they are getting a framework. Economists are not business people. They are there to understand how business and government interact to produce the world that we see in front of us.
