VR is more affordable than ever, with headsets like the Quest 2 and Quest 3 working as fantastic entry points to the medium at around £299 - £499 depending on which version and spec you go for, but high end VR is still available and new headsets are dropping all the time. Today I'm testing out the $1599 Pimax Crystal alongside my current daily driver, the Quest 3, to see if someone like me, who has never been overly concerned with the highest clarity or best specs, can really see the $1000 difference between these two devices. I originally intended to test Half Life Alyx, Skyrim and Kayak VR but I ran into some technical difficulties with the Pimax Crystal that ate into a lot of my recording time. Ultimately I walked away today convinced that the Pimax Crystal is a truly stunning piece of VR hardware but ultimately there are still lots of issues that need to be overcome, and some cheap feeling accessories that need to be replaced, before I could comfortably justify the additional cost.

All Pimax Crystal VR gameplay & Quest 3 VR Gameplay in this video was recorded on the same PC, the PC has a 4090 GPU and an i9 12900k processor, the Quest 3 PC VR connection was wireless via virtual desktop and the Pimax Crystal was running wired with the Pimax software.
