As arranged by the late immortal Mel Bay. Also the point at which most young guitarists give up on the Mel Bay Method Vol. 1. A simple misunderstanding; this arrangement should appear on page 42 rather than page 26. (Note that this is the first chord melody to appear in the book, excepting "Gliding Along", a simple Carter style arrangement on p. 25.
Also, if you are working on the Vol. 1 I recommend skipping the following: "The Blue Bells of Scotland" (poorly laid out), "Cradle Song" (Too hard, poorly laid out), "In The Evening By The Moonlight" (same), "A Serenade" (Same), "Home On The Range" (Too hard), "Carry My Back To Old Virginny" (Awkward arrangement). Once you've played everything else up to "Cindy" on p. 42, circle back to Shenandoah and you'll save yourself some heartache.
Good luck!
Also, if Mel Bay Publications needs an editor, give me a shout. The Modern Guitar Method (soon to turn 75) is due for a revision and your George Van Eps arrangement book is so full of errors it's practically a crime.
