During the fascist era, Adriana a beautiful young model becomes a prostitute after a love affair went wrong. She meets Mino, a partisan who falls in love with her and wants to redeem her.
Bella ma povera, Adriana (Gina Lollobrigida) trova lavoro come modella per un pittore. Diventa l'amante di un autista che promette di sposarla, ma poi si rivela essere già sposato. Lei si improvvisa prostituta, si innamora di Gino, un bravo ragazzo che finisce in galera per attività antifascista. Proseguono così le disavventure di Adriana alla ricerca dell'amore.
