Adult children from dysfunctional and toxic homes can remain in a codependent, sleep state, seeking approval and unable to stand up for themselves for a lifetime. My mother died a codependent woman, and I observed her powerlessly stuff her emotions and appease my father's anger and unrealistic expectations until she transitioned. She was stuck in her childhood trauma and didn't even know it.

Mom programmed me to fawn too, and thankfully, through inner child recovery work, I have learned to reprogram my self-beliefs, and I am now living my best life.
